David Allan Evans, South Dakota Poet Laureate, will be giving a short lecture and reading some of his poetry on July 10 at the Dahl. Mr. Evans will be in Rapid City for the opening of the "Images of Place" exhibit which features the artwork of Gary Steinley, paired with selected poems by David Allan Evans.

Mr. Evans has lived in Brookings, South Dakota since 1968, where he is a professor of English and Writer in Residence at South Dakota State University. He is the author of five books of poetry, and the author or editor of seven other books.

In a quote from Evans website he writes, "Poets are word athletes, and the poems they make are word performances. Good poems are not static but dynamic-they dramatize the motions of life."

One Book South Dakota

The South Dakota Humanities Council announces this year’s One Book, Buffalo for the Broken Heart, by Dan O’Brien, as part of their effort to get as many people to read and discuss a single book at one time. After the author’s welcome and reception at the Rapid City Public Library, he will give a presentation at the Dahl, allow questions and sign copies of the book. Music by jazz favorite, Shawn Park, plus dessert and coffee.

Free and open to the public.
